World Day of Prayer for Peace
January 1

Place a world globe in a central place in the home. Decorate around the globe with symbols of peace, such as a candle and the family Bible. Throughout the month, gather around the globe to pray for peace in the world.

Navajo Peace Prayer

Before me peaceful
Behind me peaceful
Under me peaceful
Over me peaceful
Around me peaceful.

Slow Me Down, Lord

Slow me down, Lord,
Ease the pounding of my heart
By the quieting of my mind.
Steady my hurried pace
With a vision
Of the eternal reach of time.
Bring me peace.
Give me,
Admist the confusions of the day,
The calmness
Of knowing you are present.
Bring me peace.
Break the tensions

Of my nerves and muscles
With the soothing music
Of singing your praises.
Teach me the art
Of taking minute vacations
Of slowing down
To look at a flower,
To chat with a friend,
To pat a dog,
To read a few lines
From a good book,
To reach out to
The neighbor in need.
To bring peace.
Slow me down, Lord,
And inspire me to send my roots deep
Into the soil
Of life’s enduring values.
Help me to know what matters
Help me to bring peace. Amen.
